The next step up

The Buffet E12F is a justifiably popular clarinet model. It directly replaced the Buffet E11 and is expertly crafted out of solid Grenadilla wood in the Buffet Crampon workshops in France. Like the Yamaha YCL450, the E12F takes some design cues from models higher up in the Buffet range, but manages to remain exceptional overall value for money.

This instrument is perfect for those moving on from that first clarinet, (which was probably a Buffet B12 or Prodige), onto an instrument more suited to the requirements of those higher grades. Hand-crafted from incredibly strong Grenadilla wood, this clarinet is able to produce exceptional tone quality due to the resonant nature of this natural material.

High quality design

Design and manufacturing quality are very evident with this model. The 17 keys are crafted onto a unique bore design with the solid wood having been treated and lacquered for maximum protection against humidity change. A water-based varnish is used, meaning the instrument is much less susceptible to cracking due to changes in temperature – always a worry when purchasing a wooden instrument!

The forged keys are coppered and silvered to give a smooth and solid playing surface. The action is responsive and incorporates blue steel springs with leather pads finishing everything off nicely and, most importantly, providing that all important seal. The instrument is also made using screwed pillars which makes the whole clarinet much more sturdy and long lasting.

Unlike the Yamaha YCL450, this model has adjustable thumb rest with a ring suitable for a neck strap. All in all, this model is priced competitively, but has characteristics that you might associate with much more expensive instruments and above all, it plays beautifully. Buffet have designed this clarinet to be narrower than other student models, which in turn makes it more free-blowing and thus easier to play.

What's in the box?

The Buffet E12F comes complete with a back pack-style case with accessory pocket. Also included is a Buffet mouthpiece, metal ligature, felt pad dryer, pull-through, thumb rest cushion and Vandoren strength 2 ½ reed. This beautiful instrument is the perfect step up for the clarinettist wanting to expand their style and develop their tonal qualities in the higher grades.
